Zeljko Milicevic
Symphony Orchestra

Zeljko Milicevic received his Bachelor of Music degree from Wayne State University in 1990 earning a degree in Music Education and Violin Performance and his Master of Music degree in Education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1998. In 2007, Milicevic completed the requirements for Certificate in Orchestral Studies from Wayne State University with an emphasis in Conducting and Violin Performance. Milicevic began his public school teaching career in 1990 and is currently Director of Orchestras at Farmington High School. In addition to his public school duties, he is Adjunct Professor of String Pedagogy at Oakland University in Rochester, MI. Since 2007 Milicevic has held the position of Music Director and Conductor of the Lake St. Clair Symphony Orchestra. As a violinist, Milicevic serves as Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Flint Symphony Orchestra and is Concertmaster of both the Bijou Theatre Orchestra in Bay City and the Macomb Symphony. His performing career has also included playing with numerous chamber ensembles including the Flint Symphony String Quartet as well as various local solo appearances. Serving as Symphony Orchestra Director, this year marks Milicevic’s 17th season conducting the Oakland Youth Orchestra.

Anthony Krempa
Philharmonia Orchestra

Anthony Krempa received his Bachelor of Music Degree from Wayne State University in 1996, where he majored in Instrumental Music Education. He is completing his Masters at Wayne State University in music education and conducting.

He is beginning his fourteenth year of teaching strings for the Birmingham Public School system, serving as the head director of orchestra for Seaholm High School and Covington Middle School. Mr. Krempa is also a private violin and viola instructor, as well as a clinician and guest conductor.

Mr. Krempa is an active performer in many area community and pre-professional symphony orchestras, and is a healthy proponent of Chamber Music. He is also the Civic Sinfonia director and assistant Civic conductor for the Detroit Civic Ensembles.

He enjoyed four seasons conducting our Strings Orchestra, and is enjoying his eighth year directing the Philharmonia Orchestra.

John Kennedy
String Orchestra

String Orchestra Director John Kennedy is entering his eighth year with the Oakland Youth Orchestra. During the days, he is Orchestra Director at Warner Middle School in Farmington, and has previously taught in Detroit, Chelsea and Iowa City, IA. In 2005, he was nominated for Orchestra Teacher of the Year for the state of Michigan.

In addition to his teaching and conducting, Mr. Kennedy is nationally recognized as a bassist, clinician and teacher of young string bassists. As President-Elect of the International Society of Bassists, John will chair the 2011 ISB Convention, to be held in San Francisco. He is also a clinician at the Golden Gate Bass Camp, the Richard Davis Workshop in Madison, Wisconsin, the Troy Bass Workshop in Michigan, the Colorado Suzuki Institute and the Elgin Suzuki Workshop in Illinois. Mr. Kennedy is Principal Bass of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra, and was formerly Associate Principal Bass of the Honolulu Symphony. He has performed with the Detroit, Toledo, Kalamazoo, New Mexico, and Cedar Rapids symphonies.

As a composer and arranger, John has written over 25 works, both arrangements and original compositions, for young bass ensembles and for youth orchestras. He holds his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in String Bass Performance from the University of Michigan.

Nick Karpinsky
Studio String Orchestra

Nick Karpinsky graduated from Wayne State University in 2009 receiving a Bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education. He has studied with various violinists over the years including Geoffrey Applegate and Jim Waring. As a violinist, Nick performs with many community orchestras including the Macomb Symphony, Lake St. Clair Symphony, and Dearborn Symphony. He has also performed with several artists including Il Divo and Eddie Daniels. Nick has performed with artists at the Fox Theater, Orchestra Hall, Motor City Casino and Joe Louis Arena.

This year Nick Karpinsky is beginning his public school teaching career with Warren Consolidated Schools at Green Acres Elementary. In addition to public school teaching, Nick also conducts the Advanced String Orchestra for the Detroit Civic Ensembles and is excited to be a part of the newly formed Studio String Orchestra with the Oakland Youth Orchestra.
