New! For Oakland Youth Orchestra’s 32nd Season 2007-2008
OYO Premieres its first “Orchestra within the Orchestra” Program

A select group of currently enrolled Symphony Orchestra students will make up the new Chamber Orchestras program. A limited number of openings to form the groups are available, and will be based on audition level at our spring auditions.

The group will include up to 22 string players and up to 10 winds/percussion players. Students with previous “smaller ensemble” experience are especially encouraged to audition. This ensemble is tentatively slated to rehearse Thursday evenings between 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. at Varner Hall. Strings placement auditions for those selected will take place in September, and in December for winds/percussion.

To herald the culmination of the program, two Chamber Orchestras will present Sunday programs at Varner Hall. The fall concert will feature a String Chamber Orchestra program, and the spring concert will feature a Full Chamber Orchestra. Repertoire chosen will reflect music written for small ensemble ranging from Baroque to Contemporary based on audition results.
